Yellowstone Volcano Observatory Monthly Update
July 1, 2024
Recent Activity
At around 1000 AM MST on July 23, 2024, a small hydrothermal explosion occurred at Steamboat Geyser. This type of explosion is not uncommon in the area and is caused by the build-up of pressure beneath the surface. There was also one Steamboat Geyser water eruption on June 9, 2023. These eruptions are part of the normal activity of the Yellowstone volcano.
The Yellowstone Volcano remains at normal background levels of activity. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations, responsible for the operation and analysis of the Yellowstone Seismic Network, reports that there have been no significant changes in seismic activity in the past month.
Conclusion
The Yellowstone Volcano is a complex and dynamic system, and scientists are constantly monitoring its activity. While the volcano is not currently showing any signs of unrest, it is important to remember that it is a potentially active volcano. The Yellowstone Volcano Observatory will continue to monitor the volcano and provide updates as needed.
