Early Life and Inspiration

On June 29, 1943, Garland Jeffreys was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Jewish father and a Black Baptist mother. Growing up in a culturally diverse neighborhood, Jeffreys' musical influences were eclectic, ranging from gospel to rhythm and blues.

Career Highlights

Jeffreys began his musical career in the mid-1960s as a member of the band Grinder's Switch. He later released several solo albums, including the critically acclaimed "Ghost Writer" (1977) and "American Boy & Girl" (1980). In 2003, he was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.

The King of In Between

Jeffreys' latest album, "The King of In Between," was released in 2019. The album has been praised for its evocative storytelling and Jeffreys' signature blend of musical styles. The album's title track was selected for DOC NYC, America's largest documentary film festival.
